Check your privilege! Check your tiyan!

March 21, 2020

While in a long walk from our barangay hall to another point of destination, we passed through a trisikad driver who emerged from a corner and was bound home. We negotiated for a lift until a certain point. Just as we were about to turn right in a corner, a police car with 2 personnel stopped. Each of the personnel took turned of hurling words against him "matigas na ulo" because "bawal ang sikad mamasada" while enhanced quarantine is enforced. We remained seated as the teen sikad driver listened. He explained he was on his way home and he will just drop us as passengers at a certain point.

Meanwhile, I was there recording the conversation, looking at the patches of policemen. I was listening while at the same time reflecting how else could other market with ease when all residents will be deprived from utilities. Perhaps, going to market must be done at dawn time to be able to walk without the scorching sun. But what about if one will be paying electric bills? Water bills? Or run an immediate errand to a store? The difficulties will be for those who have none; and, such privilege for these uniformed men to say "matigas talaga ang ulo mo" for those who struggled to survive. Pati pagdadada nyo is a privilege because your uniform, your vehicles, the gasoline used for your routines are paid by peoples' taxes who are quarantined by force.
Realizing the status' differences, I repeated what the lad said, "he is going home. He will just drop us in a financial institution."
Saka lang tinantanan ang sikad driver. I apologized to the sikad driver in behalf of f'ckin policemen. I was actually waiting if any of them will lay a hand to the sikad or if there maybe an instance of brutality.
Wag na kayong magreklamo if I name call you as f*ckin policemen.
Afterall you lack decency in talking with yanong civilians. Mas malaki pa ang tiyan nyo kesa kinakastigo n'yo. Check your privilege. Check your tiyan!
