Cable operators: Listening on underlying issues beyond complaints

"In the Philippines, Sky Cable, Destiny Cable, and Cablelink are the primary cable operators. There are also local regional companies, such as Parasat Cable TV. All of them operate on the basis of their franchise. Not listed is GNN/Pnoy, also a cable operator. To realize the transmission of infotainment, all cable operators require its consumers to purchase satellite disc, cable and its blackbox. All consumers also purchase access to desired number of channels and in accordance to household economic capacity or information needs. This chain of relations follow a matrix of regulatory policies to ensure that delivery of services are done to the satisfaction of information consumers or viewers as communication institutions transform into digital formats. ==================================================================================================================================================================================== ADVERTISEMENT: EARN BY WATCHING TUBES Wintub is t

"Remedial measures instead of death penalizing corporation"

I was online listening to senate public hearing on this controversial ABS-CBN franchise renewal. There were many strategies and points which struct as relevant but I only cite two most significant quotes that will keep the defense of press freedom and freedom of expression sustainable given the current impasse. 1. Use of remedial measures instead of death penalizing corporations.- Sen. Ralph Recto 2. The petition for quo warranto, if given due course by the Supreme Court, might likely be remanded to Security and Exchange Commission (SEC).- SEC officer ==================================================================================================================================================================================== ADVERTISEMENT: EARN BY WATCHING TUBES Wintub is the most popular spot online to earn cash for watching videos for the everyday thing you already do online. Public consultations: Booooo(ing) as IDP'S recourse to be heard

Boooood by the internally displaced peoples (IDPs). I'm referring to a resource person of a senate inquiry held in Iligan recently about the plight of IDPs in Marawi. At the outset, the IDPs have no land conflicts. They are indigenous by the lake. It's the military who revived its historic claim over parcel of land inside the most affected area and TFBM is backing it up with its new plans to construct infrastructures inside destroyed and burnt residential and business zones of the city. The reconstruction plan marginalized the occupants and possessors of tenements following the evacuation during the siege. If arguments are to be severed, TFBM should have understood that while unearthing the UXOs for two years was helpful for the safety of community, it also proved otherwise. It showed the excessive severity of the violence enforced during that 6-month battle inside the city. If all those unearthed bombs exploded, it could have pounded the city at its worst and all those rem

Epidemic of illiteracy? Think twice what it meant to be educated.

Image
The problem on literacy goes beyond the report on epidemic of illiteracy. When Iligan launched its collaborative initiative in 2009 on Reverse 47-74+1, it was motivated by a national achievement test (NAT) result expressing that Iligan only achieved an unbelievable rate of 47% . This rate was next to Maguindanao and ARMM. An assessment was immediately made in an education summit and program was developed for local action with DepEd-Iligan, mayor's office, congressman's office, MSU-IIT (Chancelor's Office), Reverse 57-75 (national campaign platform of stakeholders focused on improving education), Saint Michael's College, and with a local foundation. The social welfare office, who cares for family in violent and fragile circumstances, wasn't part of the collaboration then. Trainings for elementary teachers were conducted, some structural reform also happened within DepEd-Iligan, modules were developed, nutrition plan was introduced, and many meetings had to be und

Reaction: On quo warranto petition against ABSCBN

This does not intend to influence the independence of the Supreme Court whether to provide due course or not on the quo warranto petition of the Solicitor General against ABSCBN. Social beings have opinions and petitioner sought public attention when he issued bold statements to the media. The petition alleged the following: (1) That ABS-CBN has been allegedly broadcasting for a fee and operating a "pay-per-view channel in ABS-CBN TV Plus, the KBO Channel, without prior approval or permit from the National Telecommunications Commission. (2) That ABS-CBN has allegedly issued Philippine Depositary Receipts to foreigners —apparently, a similar allegation against online news site Rappler. (3) That ABS-CBN Convergence, Inc. allegedly resorted to an "ingenious corporate layering scheme" to transfer its franchise "without the necessary Congressional approval." (4) That ABS-CBN allegedly failed to publicly offer any of its outstanding capital stock to any securit

That vodka, beer, and regrets Bela.

Image
When did I had my first awareness of Bela? Many years ago, when I had a randomized choice which theater to hide after a weekend of discourse; in a movie whose title I can no longer recall. She was cheek, was fun, emphatic, obliging some conviction or something, seducive, wild, mad, and too liberal of her laughters. She commanded the spell to play her character even in dramatizing her sad torment and confusion of urbane millennial life. Since then, I can't recall burying myself in love movie stories unless the plot is widely criticized, commented, reviewed, and whenever the advertisement pops up countless of times that compels a quick trailer view to have at least a glimpse on what the portable community had been talking or laughing about. Photo was lifted from the film Meet me at St. Gallen. I chose this photo to magnify her image in this wall --not because I've loved her or was enchanted by her character. It just so happens that this is what I used to do in a coffeesho
