"Remedial measures instead of death penalizing corporation"

I was online listening to senate public hearing on this controversial ABS-CBN franchise renewal. There were many strategies and points which struct as relevant but I only cite two most significant quotes that will keep the defense of press freedom and freedom of expression sustainable given the current impasse.

1. Use of remedial measures instead of death penalizing corporations.- Sen. Ralph Recto

2. The petition for quo warranto, if given due course by the Supreme Court, might likely be remanded to Security and Exchange Commission (SEC).- SEC officer

Below is CNN's coverage of the public hearing.

The public hearing, which gathered all stakeholders, heard ABS-CBN CEO Carlo Katigbak publicly apologizing to President Rodrigo Duterte in humility on the network's decision not to air a political advertisement. This was subsequently accepted by the president in separate interview by media.

The sequential days however produced this summation of the result of the senate hearing on ABSCBN franchise shared by a number of social media users, and I quote:

"1. All Duterte’s national ads worth P117M were aired. Of P65M pesos worth of local ads, P7M worth was not aired because it was placed late, and all slots have been filled. More than P4M was refunded and accepted, but the P2.6M remained to be returned but was refused.

2. No law prohibits the airing of negative ads, such as the ad paid for by the camp of former Sen. Antonio Trillanes. GMA-7 also aired a negative political ad against then-presidential candidate Duterte in 2016, a Kapuso official said at a Senate committee hearing on Monday. ABS-CBN initially declined to air the negative ad that used children, but a revised version was cleared for use after hurdling a review committee. However, after a court issued the halt order against the negative ad, ABS-CBN complied with the TRO that was served on them.

3. KBP says that political ads do not fall within the oversight of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas.

4. Sen. Kiko Pangilinan says ABS-CBN also didn’t air ads of Liberal Party in 2019 election, so he doesn’t see bias.

To summarize this senate’s hearing:
• NTC: Walang violation ang ABS-CBN.
• BIR: Walang violation ang ABS-CBN.
• SEC: Walang violation ang ABS-CBN.
• DOLE: Walang violation ang ABS-CBN.
• Bong Go: Nasaktan ang presidente"

I'm on the other hand, in deep thought what was too disapproving and unacceptable from what transpired in that bid for an advertisement slot in previous election. Was it access to advert time slot? Was it the regret on money returned but not accepted? Or the children asking questions and coaxing voters to reflect? Or, that irreplaceable and irreconcilable ire? Or, all?
But what was the fuss (of this matter which transpired in last election)? Who was truly defrauded or defrauding? The children who sounded like they were attacking a candidate? The sponsor of this advertisement? The candidate who refused to accept the refund after so-and-so circumstances? Or the official who was offended by content of the advertisement? Or, those who contributed in that P2 million ad for a political leverage in post election?
Then, it also likely appear that such P2 million was invested to sow an ire and thereafter rant to close a 66-year old institution, kulban og kaldero ang 11,000 employees, nix the revenues which will be earmarked from ABSCBN tax, and celebrate Edsa revolution dangling our economy to the dustbin?

This thoughts were however relaxed after the president issued public statement that he accepted the apology of ABSCBN. On a hindsight, I can't settle with mere un-expounded "nasaktan ang pangulo."
